New music…

Add comment September 7th, 2007

So, those who know me have a good idea of how my music tastes go, or they should, being I’ve always something rolling around my noodle and often need to share. Cocteau Twins have had their spell on me for nearly a decade, and since their demise I’ve been floating on their last release M &K and finding EP’s of their box-set in thrift stores.

Here’s a new voice that is a pleasurable listen. Tegan Northwood will now be collected.  As will Frou Frou. She has a killer voice.
Pandora is some pretty cool stuff. Basic premise: enter a name of a band you like, then it creates and suggests songs that are similar in style that you might enjoy as well. So far, I’ve put in Cocteau and I’ve know all the songs/bands it’s suggested but one, and those it’s suggested I’ve known, I’ve already collected. Nice though, it’s like “random” through someone else’s ginormous collection in the direction of your preferences.

What a weekend…

Hello Dear reader, Pray for me.  I’m way, way tired right now, currently post-lunch in Durango.  Have a meeting in 38minutes, so really cannot nap.  Had enough caffiene already, so am going to “wing it” for the rest of my day.  Tonight I’m in Red River before Angel Fire tomorrow, then home.

As for the title, it was a great weekend.  Saturday moring started with a ride to the men’s breakfast at my church, then after that blessing back home.  25 miles approx, and enough with the hills for my not-greatest-shape status.  Our speaker at the breakfast hit on a bunch of great stuff, most notably a favorite encouragement of mine.  That being: “Where is your focus?  Are you spending time with God, DAILY?  In Prayer and His Word?”  THat’s it in a nutshell (my encouragement/nag to you).  Made a friend [Hi Craig!] with a missionary brother who was visiting with his family, his wife being a former member of our fellowship.  After getting home and relaxing a bit, I toddled down to downtown to watch the Albq. Century Criteriums and got a nice sunburn standing in the sun. Later that afternoon Jess and I attempted to visit a few of the homes on the Custom Home Tour but were only able to visit one McMansion due to time-constraints.  Sunday, Pastor Bruce is starting a sermon series on Titus, and having taught a study not long ago on the very same, it’s going to be really cool to hear what God delivers through Bruce for us.  The new ABF (adult Bible fellowship) we’ve launched for the College-aged folks is starting a study in James that will be really, really cool as Jessica and I really like the book of James .  Sunday afternoon was the rescheduled performance of THIS and was completely delighted to have the opportunity to see them.  A snowstorm kept them back East back in March, so they became last in our Ovation series events.

It just got done raining here in Durango.  Feeling less sleepy now, and will grab an energizer/vitamin C smoothie to drive back over into NM via Pagosa Springs.  Latest CD in the car was Control from Pedro The Lion.  Great stuff, like the song Second Best alot, caused the Zen to nav to Pornography from The Cure to continue the mood created.

Legend Lastnight…

For Mother’s Day this year Jess and I agreed John Legend tix weren’t too outrageous and that me taking my mom would be a good thing.  TRUE TRUE!  What a talented musician!  Awesome to see him so early in his career and amazed he was booked at Sandia Casino.  His next visit will probably be Mesa Del Sol, provided his career continues in the path it’s begun so far.  Here is is his webby if you want to learn more about him.  Eventually I’ll figure out how to upload pics and vid from my Razr to share here with you.  Good show, great music…kinda like lounge-room-performer, 60’s R&B, Smooth and tight, with grooves that make ya want to move.  My Mom severly DUG the suprise, and enjoyed the show as well.  If you like him, you missed it!  And now we have to wait until the next visit where Mesa Del Sol lawn tix are the only viable $ option.

new music…

So, I\’ve not been one to follow the charts or latest bands for more than ten-years now, basically since monkey-music was the rage (lame) and I hooked up with KLYT for my music-infusion.  The same time explain is my new-begin in ABQ and new-leafed attempt at not worrying about the world, but my growth in the Lord.

My music infusion of \”the world\” has mostly consisted of the stuff I may drift by on presets from 88.3 to 107.1, but no real pursuit of anything but what my better half might intro me to (BNL forever!).  Dance music via the european labels (MoS) i could find in the used bins was collected, due to the absence of weekly dance visits (like back in SoCal).

New music scores every week now at the library.  Go figure, our tax dollars at work and we can check them out for 4 weeks or so just like a book!  Ladytron and  Goldfrapp along with our local boys have entertained me of late. the first two are \”like, OMG, Totally 80\’s\” with a current technology tooling shift, while the Shins rock in a mellow-cool kind of way.  Just some new stuff I\’m diggin\’, thought you might like to know.

Praise GOD!!!

I’ve done it, finally gotten around to starting (and almost finished) [DONE! 79.28 minutes!] my first Praise/Worship mixer-cd blix done. PHENOM-cool. Want a copy? Totally rockin’ sing-praises-til-you’re-hoarse fun? I cannot believe how superglad this makes me feel, I love worshipping the Lord, and have now created a nice little CD for just that, crammed with a ton of current and slightly-past “modern” worship and hymns. Gonna pass them around to a select few friends to see if they dig it as much as I do, and maybe I’ll start another soon. NEXT up though is a smooth-jazz-ish/blu music compilation from my extensive library. Not all jazz and not all electronica, but udderly moo-licious.
Giddy with gladness, you probably don’t understand, (but maybe…)

DI.FM

So if you enjoy electronica, or even non-electronic music for that matter, a link I’ve got on the right is for you-Digitally Imported. As I do expense-reports, tweak excel spreadsheets, or spend even more time at the ‘puter posting here or otherwise “stumblin”, I’m listening to it. It has one of the best selections of the various sub-genres of electronic music (I’m a fan of the progressive and trance channels), as well as non-electronica stations from their sister site, SKY.fm. It’s my jolt of jittery dance-music that was a big part of my life pre-Christ (in the sense of an all-encompasing relationship walk with HIM) from 10-15 years back. DI.fm also has a commercial-interruption-free (as if there are lots of commercials [there isn’t]) that supposedly has even better sound than the 96kb I get through my winamp. Just head-bobbin’ motivation that sometimes has me serious chair-dancing!
